Bronze, S&H 1. The first medal engraved by Ivar Throndsen, widely regarded as the most important figure in Norwegian medallic art. Active from 1881 to 1924, Throndsen produced hundreds of medals of consistently superb quality, unmatched by any of his contemporaries. The American Numismatic Society holds a notable collection of his works, described as “Exquisite, delicate and unusual commemoration medals by the famous Norwegian medallist Mr. Ivar Throndsen.”
